Culture of any society is highly influenced by Food and Art. Food of Delhi is influenced by its past, history, different cultures and traditions and people of Delhi will always be grateful to Mughals for leaving behind the legacy of Mughlai Cuisine. This particular cuisine is a blend of Punjabi & Mughlai flavours and is often stated as a royal cuisine because of the ingredients used which makes it so special and royal. 


Here are a few recommendations of legendary restaurants serving Mughlai Food in Delhi since/before Independence:



  1. MOTI MAHAL - When we talk about butter chicken, the first place that comes to our mind is the OG Moti Mahal. The shahi creamy sauce which blends well with tandoori chicken makes their butter chicken a specialty. Moti Mahal is famous for its other Mughlai Delicacies as well like Burrah Kabab, Brain Masala, and Tandoori Chicken.

  1. Al JAWAHAR - Al Jawahar is said to be inaugurated by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1947. This place is even older than Independent India and some claim that it got “Jawahar” in its name from Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru itself. Their very famous Nihari is nothing but the most scrumptious masterpiece. Other than their nihari, mutton ishtu AKA stew and khamiri roti are also loved by people. If Mughlai cuisine suits your palate, then now you know where to get delicious Nihari from.

  1. EMBASSY - Started in 1948, this restaurant with culinary legacy has stood the time wind. They have kept all of their recipes intact from the past 75 years. This Post Independent Era restaurant serves nostalgia with culinary legacy and authentic recipes like their signature Dal meat, Embassy Pudding and their specialty, Embassy Samosa. Their preparation has been the same so far which makes their customers come back to them.
